It’s a sad day down here on Earth. 76 years we have been allowed to be in the presence of greatness and now he has been brought home. He will be so missed. This great rock star, the icon, the idol. “Sharon!” I will never forget the way he said her name.
Ozzy was the epitome of giving people what they wanted, what they needed. Who knew in the late 70s that we needed someone to scream at us and bite the heads off of live bats?
But we did.
Coming off of the heels of the Vietnam War, it was exactly what our soldiers, our students, and our country needed. Violent release. He led the charge, bringing us onto a Crazy Train that would keep us wrapped in an armor of violence that inside, was warm and fuzzy family shit.
He drove us into the 80s, intoxicated, speeding, passing out and still, the whole time, teaching us with his words, his songs. Mr. Crowley, Dreamers, and War Pigs… He told on them all and they were too stupidly blinded by the mirror to notice. He, told us what they were a long, long time ago.
Once we were there, all fired up ready to take our Shot in the Dark, he’d bring us back to that warm, sad place. Like coming home to Mama, or closing your eyes forever in the arms of a lover. Always, always reminding us that beyond the chaos, the pain and the anger, is love.
Strange message I got from the Great Goth King huh?
Hopefully beyond the amazing music, others maybe got the same message from him, I don’t know. Life is a balance. Is there a black and white line between good and evil? I believe it’s more of a knowledge of the nature of the beast.
Ozzy showed us the Great Monster, in all its scary glory and then he showed us how to kill it. Not how you would think either. Most of his songs talk a lot about love.
I believe his death signals something. Something coming. Somehow the Universe has shifted. Something feels different today.
He said it best in Lay Your World on Me, we gotta stick together. It’s the bottom line. No one is ever alone, there is a collective. A vibe, a rhythm that holds the line. No one is ever alone.
Gonna miss you Ozzy Osbourne. My prayers go out to Sharon and all of Ozzy’s beautiful kids.
Your dad changed the world. Thank you.
